Many of you will already know the face of the team member we are introducing this week, or perhaps he just looks very very familiar... Well it would be because he is my, Amy's, brother and we have actually been mistaken for twins before (even triplets when you include our older sister)! When Jarryd first told us that he was interested in joining Rozelle we were very excited for this unexpected decision from our own family member. Jarryd is a lively addition to our team with great ideas for community building and has a real heart for making everyone feel welcomed. So, we are very excited for the rest of you to get to know him.
Having grown up overseas, what are some of your favourite memories?
Funny you should ask actually... Just yesterday I met a Siri Lanken fella and we were talking about all the cultural differences between Australia and abroad, particularly the disregard of safety in some circumstances. As we both shared, I guess I felt a little of that "the good ol' days" with memories such as using soviet, wooden chairlifts for skiing with rotted slates, public buses resembling cans of sardines more than public transport and of coarse playing soccer everyday with local mates.
Having abseiled down a Tasmanian damn, ridden your motorbike from Sydney to the Gold Coast (and return) and with your recent desire to swim with sharks, what other adventures would you want to fulfil before the age of 30?
Trip around parts of India on a motorbike is definitely high up on priority list!
What do you find most exciting about being a part of a new church?
I find everything about a new church plant exciting, but the most exciting aspect would have to be the unknown factors. As we seek to march under the banner of God's grace and demonstrate it practically through establishing a new church, it's exciting to think how God will shape us. The picture of what this Rozelle church will look like next month, next few months, next year... is currently a clean canvas with the exciting prospects for the Kingdom of God to reach out and grab hold of this area.
What kind of ministry would you really like to see happen at the church which you would be excited to be a part of?
Yeah great question. To be honest, I'm keen for any community integration and engagement ministries which provide an opportunity to build new connections and relations. What that looks like? Inviting new people to events, joining established groups and maybe even creating new community groups... with the intentional goal of sharing what the Rozelle Church Plant is all about, The Good News!
How have you found being a part of the core team so far?
Really great. I feel like we have built genuine connections and I'm looking forward to knuckling down in ministry alongside the core team. It's also awesome that each member comes with such a variety of experiences, skills and passions from all walks of life. I believe the team, by God's grace, will continue to grow in unity, service and number, and am keen to be a part of it!
How can people best be praying for you during this church planting journey?
Please pray for me as I manage my time between work, study and the church plant. And specifically with the church for the opportunity to make new relationships with locals in Rozelle and around the Inner West.
